Acquisition announcement

Acquisition announcement:

COMING IN AUGUST 2013: Phoenicia's Worlds by Ben Jeapes

Solaris is delighted to announce that it has acquired Phoenicia's Worlds, the latest novel by SF writer Ben Jeapes.

Set on mankind’s sole colony outside of our solar system, Phoenicia's Worlds sees two brothers caught up by fate as the future of their world hangs in the balance.

It will be published in August next year and will continue Solaris’ proud reputation for publishing challenging, boundary-pushing science-fiction that focuses on strong characters to bring new and endlessly inventive worlds to its readers.

“Ben is a writer whose work I have admired for a while,” said Jonathan Oliver, editor-in-chief of Solaris. “His novels as a YA author show fresh takes on the SF genre and are exciting and engaging. It's a delight to bring him to Solaris for his first adult novel. Ben is destined to become a significant name in the field.”

It is Jeapes’ first book for Solaris and follows his previous novels: His Majesty’s Starship, The Xenocide Mission, Time’s Chariot and The New World Order.

The synopsis for Phoenicia's Worlds reads:

La Nueva Temporada is Earth’s only extrasolar colony an Earth-type planet caught in the grip of a very Earth-type Ice Age. Alex Mateo wants nothing more than to stay and contribute to the terraforming of his homeworld. But tragedy strikes the colony, and to save it from starvation and collapse Alex must reluctantly entrust himself to the only starship in existence to make the long, slower than light journey back to Earth.

But it is his brother Quin, who loathes La Nueva Temporada and all the people on it, who must watch his world collapse around him and become its ultimate saviour.
